Meer Guide | The ultimate guide for the best in sustainable baby & kids fashion.

Meer Mission

With all the greenwashing out there, it can be confusing to make good choices when it comes to environmentally friendly options for our children. We want to help.

In our guides and editorial content, we’re taking a closer look at the sustainable efforts being made in kids fashion, big and small, so you can make informed decisions that work for you and your family.

Our Focus

When we talk about a brand’s sustainability, let’s break it down into four areas; the product, the people, the planet and transparency.

THE PRODUCT

We look at what kind of materials are being used, how they’re being dyed and where they’re coming from. We want to ensure the products are non-toxic and safe. We emphasize a brands use of natural materials like organic cotton and linen, recycled fabrics and plant-based fabrics like Tencel. We also keep in mind the fibers affect on the future of the product, be it garment care, how it wears and eventual recycling.

THE PEOPLE

We consider where the product is being produced, how much oversight brands have into their factories and what kind of impact their practices have on its workers. We also look at the brands social responsibility within their own community and the world at large, through the people and organizations they partner with, donate to and support.

THE PLANET

We weigh their effect on the planet by their carbon footprint, efforts to reduce water & energy usage, if they actively recycle & up-cycle and any special initiatives they’ve implemented to reduce their environmental impact.

TRANSPARENCY

We believe brands should be upfront about their ethical practices and responsible for their impact on the earth and people. We look to a brands website and public statements to see how much information is available. Brands are also given a chance to tell us more about their processes by answering the questions we send, understanding it will become public.

We feel it’s important to know where your clothing is coming from and who is making it and this is a small step toward that goal.

Our Info

We start by checking a brands website to see what they’ve publicly committed to. Sometimes there’s a ton of information, sometimes very little or vague information.

We compiled questions for brands about their ethical and environmental practices by talking to industry experts and parents about what matters most to them. The answers help us understand the brands efforts, mission and commitment to more environmentally friendly practices, as well as what they aspire to as a small company.

We also look at available third party information and Certifications to help bridge the gap. The certifications provide standards and reliability. However since certifications are often expensive and hard to attain for small brands (especially in their first couple of years) we also look to other independent sources and the brand itself, but we do reference different certification systems being used in the fashion industry, most commonly Oeko-Tex and GOTS.

We encourage brands to send updated information and advise us of changes that may occur within their companies whenever possible. When requested, we will reevaluate a brand profile and update information if new and relevant information is provided.

We’re meerly here to help.
