When we think of Minimalisma, we always think of their seamless wool and silk, base layers for warmth and rich jewel tones. They’ve surprised us this summer with crisp organic cotton piquet and sherbet pops of color in their silk seamless.

The ‘Happy-Go-Lucky” collection is inspired by designer Maja Akraberg’s memories of her first summer holiday in Bellevue Beach. Growing up in the Faroe Islands, Denmark was a distant exotic place and the poppy fields, blue skies and white beaches left a lasting impact. The three main colors in the collection, ocean, terra-cotta and fudge are by all means still earthy, but there’s variance throughout in the different materials that make mix and match tonal work very well.

The relaxed collection of easy to wear basics have some unique detailing, like two of our favorites in cotton pique, the Ekko pant, a culotte pant with a tie belt, pockets and cropped length and the Elska dress, with a crossover open back that make it more breathable on hot summer days. We’re also loving the simplicity in the silk seamless of the Helle top and Hjarta pant, both with a looser fit and tiny rib and the Bina Dress, in the black and white stripe, should be a summer staple. There’s also sweet ruffles throughout for those looking for a more feminine silhouette.

In addition, as always, 80% of the collection is NOOS (never out of stock), so your favorite stand-by is still available. That’s especially true for all the summer babies on the way, the selection of organic onesies in an array of candy colors are perfect, we especially like the raw edge detailing in some styles. There’s a little bloomer and shortie in the summer capsule to pair perfectly. Most of the collection ranges between $25 - $60. minimalisma.com

Q&A with Designer Maja Akraberg

What is the inspiration for the new SS20 Collection?

I find inspiration in my Nordic heritage and mychildhood memories. In the summer when I turned eight, I left the Faroe Islands for the first time withmy family. After 36 hours on a ferry over the Atlantic Ocean, we reached Denmark on a sunny afternoon. For the next two weeks we cruised along the beautiful Marguerite Route in our orange Morris Marina Coupé. We stopped at numerous beaches along the way, played at the red poppy fields and ate a lot of ice cream. To me, this was amagical time full of happy memories and, thus, the Happy-go-Lucky collection.

What is new about the SS20 Collection?

Our Happy-go-lucky 2020 collection is more colourful than our previous collections. The colours reflect the poppy flower fields that we passed on our Denmark cruise with red and yellow accents. We have added more blue ranging from forget-me-not-blue to clear summer sky and darker ocean shades. Our signature silk-seamless collection has been complimented with a few new styles and after repeated requests from retailers and customers, we have also added a few more silk styles for moms / grown-ups.

What is your personal favourite item and why?

I love the luxurious silk blend. We have a new loose-fit top in this group that is very pretty together with the volume pants in organic cotton piquet. I would actually love to wear that outfit myself.
