10 of the Best Cardigans for Winter 2019

How we love a good cardigan! It can be one of the most used pieces of clothing in the wardrobe, so investing in good quality is important. A light jacket, a warm layer, keep it open, button it up, use it as a blanket! We love them for the versatility and their coverage without full coverage. Easy to throw on/off and the perfect solution for a child that gets warm easily but there’s still a chill outside. So, how do we like our cardigan? Usually, a good 100% cotton medium-weight-medium-chunk knit is our favorite. We also tend to love a neutral just because it can pair with anything. We like our cardigan to play well with others. We’re also very partial to a cashmere blend too, but that doesn’t work so well with washability and messy kids. A wool blend is welcome too, as long as it’s soft and cozy and not itchy, at all. We’ve picked our favorites from this winter and realize we’re also partial to a v-neck on our cardigans. Since a cardigan generally has quite a bit of flexibility in fit, we recommend sizing up and rolling those cuffs for extra long wear.

THE BEST NEUTRAL

The go with anything cardigan that everyone needs in their wardrobe. If we had to pick only one, it will usually be a neutral 100% cotton cardigan.

THE CHUNKY WOOL

When you need an extra layer of warmth, we like to add a cardigan in wool or cashmere. We especially love them in a chunky knit for even more extra cozy.

THE OVERSIZED

A longer cardigan has a cool style and provides more coverage and usually has extended wear because of the length and roomier fit. Best for ages 3+ so it doesn’t overwhelm them.

THE POP OF COLOR

If you wear a lot of neutrals, sometimes a colorful cardigan can lend a nice color pop, as long as it’s subtle. We even like a good color block when it’s done right.
